To further develop and expand HEU's disciplines in literature, history, and philosophy, the Institute for Advanced Humanistic and Social Sciences was established in 2019. The institute with ten full-time faculty members currently has research teams in "Philosophy & Socio-Historical Theory" "Central and Eastern European Thought and Culture" "Russian Thought and Culture" and "Chinese Traditional Thought and Culture". The institute has undertaken three projects funded by the National Social Science Fund of China, published over 40 papers in journals such as "Marxism & Reality" and "Academic Monthly", with many papers featured or abstracted in "Xinhua Digest" "Chinese Social Sciences Digest" and "Academic Abstracts of Higher Education Arts & Humanities". The institute has published a ten-volume series on New Marxism in Eastern Europe and has cemented its reputation in philosophical and Marxist socio-historical theory, Central and Eastern European & Russian thought and cultural studies both domestically and internationally.
